Holy Kaaba covered with a new Kiswah

This ritual took place after Morning Prayer on the 9th day of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, the day pilgrims leave for the plain of Arafat during the Hajj. After the ritual of Morning Prayer at the Al-Haram Mosque, Muslims were observers of the replacement of the Kaaba Kiswah woven with pure silk and gold.

According to Shafqana quoting Al-Hayat newspaper, the report states that the Kiswah curtain is made up of 675kg of raw black silk for the exterior and raw green silk for the interior of the house of God (Kaaba) and 100kg of pure gold and 120kg of pure silver thread have been used to write Quranic verses on it. The total cost is 24 million Saudi riyals (four million and 6 hundred thousand dollars).

Every year on the ninth day of Dhu al-Hijjah, when the pilgrims are in the desert of Arafat, the Kaaba kiswah is replaced.

The curtain of the house of God is made up of five pieces, each covering one side of the Kaaba, and a fifth on the entrance door of the Kaaba, in a way that when being installed it weighs about two tons.

The curtain is produced in cooperation with factories inside and outside Saudi Arabia; the curtain is donated by one of the countries each year, and the previous curtain is gifted to the heads and the rulers of Islamic countries.

In the knitting and supplying factory of this curtain which needs 8 months of knitting work both with machines and by hand, more than 200 skilled weavers, competent and efficient people work.

Today (Saturday) is August 10th, 2019 and it is the 9th of Dhu al-Hijjah 1440, the Day of Arafah and tomorrow is Eid Al-Adha in Saudi Arabia.
