Professor of theology and mysticism emphasized: If we want to introduce the noble Prophet of Islam (PBUH) as an outstanding global figure today, we must focus on what has been presented in the realm of humanity, irrespective of religious beliefs.
What is a human being? What is their position and place in the cosmos? What are their existential capacities in both positive and negative aspects? And what is the path to salvation from deviant currents and towards the path of true humanity? All of these are explained in the best possible way in the Quran and the traditions of the noble Prophet of Islam (PBUH).
The innate need for religion is a natural and instinctive matter in human beings.
Hojjatul-Islam Morteza Javadi Amoli, in an interview with Shafaqna, discussed the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) mission. He said: Concerning the outstanding personality of the noble Prophet (PBUH) and how Divine Mission culminated in the existence of this unparalleled truth in the cosmos, who is the “master of all worlds,” it became clear after both the logical and philosophical proofs, as well as innate reasoning and religious evidence, that the longing for religion and the need for it is a natural and instinctive part of human beings.
Javadi Amoli stated: Regarding the introduction of human beings, which is considered one of the most complex issues in today’s world, and which is referred to as the concept of “humanism” by contemporary society, the noble Prophet (PBUH) introduced the truth of humanity in the best way. He clarified humanity’s place in the cosmos and declared their superiority and dignity over all other creatures at the highest level, as God says: “We have certainly honored the children of Adam (AS).”
However, at the same time, God, the Almighty, manifested Allah (SWT) with the attribute of “nobility” and bestowed knowledge, awareness, and understanding upon humanity in the form of honor. As God says: “Read in the name of your Lord who created; Read, and your Lord is the Most Generous.” This means that God first introduced humanity to knowledge, reading, and understanding and then honored them with divine dignity.
Everything that is fitting for a higher, better, and more complete human being, in terms of virtues, traits, and ethical qualities, was presented in the best manner. Everything humanity needed in terms of its humanity was provided through the teachings of the Book, wisdom, and purification.
Javadi Amoli pointed out: Today, humanity believes that humanism represents the highest level of human knowledge and thinks that it is the peak of human understanding. However, while human beings are indeed superior to all other creatures and their perfection is evident, in relation to the Creator of the universe, they are referred to as “servants.”
A person can only attain true perfection through worship and servitude to God. Therefore, humanism, as presented in secular humanism, is essentially opposed to theism. However, in the teachings of Islam, as conveyed by the final Prophet (PBUH), humanism means that while human beings are superior and more complete, they understand their perfection, happiness, and salvation as being through the divine sovereignty and creation of the Lord of the Universe. They seek guidance from God, ask for God’s help, and move toward Allah (SWT) in servitude, as we read in the Quran: “You alone we worship, and You alone we ask for help.”
