According to Shafaqna, the statesmen reads: there are no words that could explain the suffering of the people of Sri Lanka. The evil terrorist attacks on churches and public places took the lives of more than 350 and injured more than 500 innocent people during the Easter Sunday, 21st April. At this moment of grief, we stand with people of Sri Lanka and the Christian minority who were the main target of these horrific attacks.

It is still unclear who the main perpetrator was, however, reports suggest that Daesh has claimed responsibility for this bloodshed. Just a few weeks ago, on 15th March, the Muslim minority in New Zealand was targeted in the Christchurch terrorist attack. These recent attacks reiterate that the battle against extremism and terrorism is not won over yet. The international community must ensure eradicating online and offline breeding ground for terrorists, investigate the sources of their funding, and hold to account the promoters of the extremist ideology.

We would also like to caution that extremists would want to exploit these recent tragedies to promote hate and create a divide among religious communities. In this critical moment, the responsibility of faith leaders becomes more important to come forward and play their part for long-lasting peace. We need to raise voice collectively against religious persecutions and extremism.

We reiterate our support and prayers for the people of Sri Lanka and share their grief.
